Ponting vs tendulkar | ponting | rules of cricket | sachin | dravid | sachin tendulkar

Ponting never played international cricket against Mc.Grath, Warn and co…
I accept Ponting as greatest in modern cricket, but not equal to Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar hit so many centuries in all test and ODI formats against Australia playing against Mc.Grath, Lee, good fast bowlers then other all now cricket playing countries. In spin department played against legendary Shane Warn. As a Australian player Ponting never played against them. This is Big difference between them.
Now not much cricket left in both of them, the thing to watch out for is which one of these two cricketers quit with record of most century and runs in both test and one day international form of cricket. Look at the batting averages of both legends, in both forms of the game. Note that Sachin and Ponting have quite international twenty20 matches.
Test Career Statistics
Tendulkar 167 matches, 13647 runs, 48 hundreds, high score 248*.
Ricky Ponting 146 matches, 12026 runs, 39 hundreds, High score 257.

Pakistan vs Australia | Pakistan vs Australia test match | Pakistan v Australia: Umar Gul blasts Ricky Ponting’s ‘shocking decision’ to bat first

Australia’s batsmen were left humiliated as they scrambled to 88 all out in 33.1 overs, just eight runs more than the previous lowest mark set in Karachi in 1956.

Teenage left-armer Mohammad Aamer and Mohammad Asif claimed three wickets apiece while Gul chipped in with two of his own as Australia failed to deal with the swinging ball under cloudy skies.

Ponting’s decision to bat came as an added surprsie because his side were the beneficiaries of similar conditions 12 months ago, when they skittled England for 102 on the opening day of the fourth Ashes Test at the same venue.

Gul admitted he had expected to be batting when the Australians won the toss.

”The wicket looked a bit light this morning – it looked a bit like a batting wicket but there was a bit of moisture from last night when it was raining,” the Pakistan seamer said.

”There was moisture under the wicket so I think it was a shocking decision, especially for Australia.

”I don’t know what the captain and coach’s decision was going to be but if we won the toss we (the Pakistan bowlers) were ready to bowl first.

”When the clouds come it starts swinging and when the sun comes it is a bit flat and good for the batsmen. It all depends on the clouds when you can get some swing and seam.

”This morning it was swinging a lot and the ball was seaming. So there was pressure for everyone. It was good for us and I hope the batsmen will do well.”

Pakistan’s batsman set about the task of building a commanding first-innings lead as they reached stumps on 148 for three to open a lead of 60 runs.

Australia’s bowlers failed to find the same sort of movement in the air to match Pakistan’s threat, and Gul believes it was simply because his team-mates bowled better.

”So far in the first and second Test we are bowling better than Australia because we are bowling a fuller length. Our line and length is better than Australia,” the 26-year-old assessed.

”It was a good day for us. The bowlers did very well. Aamer, Asif and myself did very well as we planned before the game.”

Pakistan will begin tomorrow looking to build on their lead and Gul said they would be aiming for nothing less than a 200-run advantage as they look to claim a first Test win over Australia in 15 years.

”We are planning to put on another 150 to lead by around 200. We need to bat well to get that and then we will have a good chance,” he added.

India is Ponting feels India tour will not be helpful for Ashes | Australia tour of india in October

Ricky Ponting

Ricky_Ponting_YM_59207_O

SYDNEY – Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting feels that the tour to India in October will not be an ideal preparation for his team for the Ashes against England in late November.

The India tour was initially scheduled to consist of seven 50-over matches, but Cricket Australia (CA) agreed to the host’s request to change that to two Tests and three one-dayers.

The two Tests, in Mohali and Bangalore, should help Australia to prepare for the Ashes, but Ponting feels that pitch characteristics in India will be different to those expected for the Ashes opener at the Gabba in late November.

“If you were trying to set down and map out your perfect preparation for an Ashes series or a home series it probably wouldn’t be playing two Test matches in India. But you don’t live in an ideal world. We’ll wait and see who we’ve got that’s fit and ready to go for that tour and pick a squad of players we think can win a Test series over there, and then worry about the start of the Ashes after that,” Ponting was quoted as saying by the Sydney Morning Herald.

According to Ponting, the prospect of changes to Australia’s batting line-up in time for October’s Test tour of India is remote.

“I think you can look at all of our batsmen through this tour. We’ve faced some pretty challenging conditions at different times. Both innings at Lord’s the ball got around a fair bit, certainly the first innings here (Headingley) were probably the most challenging conditions that any of us have batted in,” he said.

“We all analyse ourselves pretty closely and we all want to play well all the time but unfortunately that’s not the way this game works. But if you’re going to win Test matches you have to have five or six or seven of your guys playing well each game and we probably didn’t have that in this particular Test match,” said Ponting.
